Awesome Shield is a coding school that empowers kids to bring their dreams to life with a project-based approach. On April 26th the company is launching a Kickstarter Campaign.
Education is an art under fire — as parents and teachers contend with the complexities of 21st pedagogy under the looming threat of budget cuts, students struggle to make the most of emerging opportunities and master contemporary challenges as the world changes rapidly around them. Within this vortex of struggle and flow, STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Art and Math) has emerged as a transformative possibility — the opportunity not only to teach the skills necessary to survive in today’s world, but also to develop the resources that will allow students to adapt to an unknown future.
The new world envisioned by parents and teachers pushing STEAM is a world powered by technology — a world of endless innovation and perpetual change, a world that will be dominated by a new creative class with big dreams and the technological know-how to bring those dreams to life. And yet, despite a passion for STEAM erupting around the world, cultivating the know-how future inventors truly need has proven to be a challenge, a challenge recently taken up by entrepreneurs around the world. One of the most exciting new education initiates to emerge in the STEAM space in recent years is Awesome Shield, a coding academy for future inventors launching launching on Kickstarter Tuesday April 26th, 2016.
Awesome Shield is a coding school that empowers kids to bring their dreams to life with a project-based approach. Incorporating a sleek, red piece of hardware, simplified code, and an online video library of more than 100 tutorials, Awesome Shield teaches coding from the ground up, building technological know-how by working towards the completion of projects with real-world applications. As kids learn to build a burglar alarm, a theremin, a programmable candle and more, they develop new coding skills and learn to use those skills to bring lights, sounds, and sensors on the Awesome Shield hardware to life.
In addition to teaching coding, Awesome Shield brings basic math, science, engineering and art principles to the foreground, while developing core competencies that last a lifetime — from creative problem solving to persistence, literacy, organization and self-sufficiency — preparing kids for a lifelong journey of innovation.
We have a responsibility to the generation that comes next — a responsibility to inspire as well as to instruct, and startups like Awesome Shield are a major part of that puzzle. So, whether you’re putting the pieces together in the classroom or your own home, consider taking a closer look at startups like Awesome Shield as you ponder the power of STEAM.
